Niemoeller spoke
from his pulpit
against the
rise of Adolf
Hitler's National
Socialist Party
in the early
1930's after
churches like
his had been
instructed to
dispense Nazi
propaganda.
Niemoller
soon noticed
that fellow
clerics who
did not follow
the Party line
had started
to 'disappear'.
Despite this
he risked his
life and publicly
spoke out and
this is a translation
of his text.
He was arrested
but managed
to escape with
the help of
friends to the
USA where
he lived till
1984..
